William O. Hardman is a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Dr. TCM) and a Registered Acupuncturist (R. Ac.). He graduated with distinction from the Canadian College of Chinese Studies in Victoria, BC in 1991. Bill was fortunate to have the opportunity of receiving his advanced training in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and serving his internship with Dr. Hong Zhu. Dr. Zhu is a published author, Medical Doctor in China and prior to immigrating to Canada, Dr. Zhu was Senior Acupuncturist at the Beijing TCM hospital. As Bill’s mentor, Dr. Zhu shared many specialty techniques that help make acupuncture a very powerful, but painless form of treatment.
In his practice “Dr. Bill” has extensive experience in treating acute and chronic pain, allergies, complex digestive ailments including Crohn’s disease and IBS, immune enhancement, nutritional counseling, soft tissue injuries including sports injuries and whiplash, stress headaches and migraines, and women’s health issues including gestational care. He has also provided serious illness management to patients in the Vancouver General Hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU); and he has provided palliative care at both Burnaby General and Eagle Ridge hospitals Extended Care units.
Bill is highly regarded by his colleagues, having served as President of the Acupuncture Association of British Columbia, the Canadian Acupuncturists and TCM Alliance of British Columbia, and the Qualified Acupuncturists and TCM Association of British Columbia. He currently volunteers on two committees for the CTCMA (the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia).
British Colombia is the recognized leader of safely integrating Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture into the mainstream medical model in our province. Bill was instrumental in having Provincial Legislation enacted to help protect the public from unqualified practitioners. He was one of the first practitioners recognized by the Provincial Government as qualified under the British Columbia Health Professions Act to use the title Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Dr. TCM).
As a public spokesperson for the profession, Bill has been interviewed as a guest Acupuncture expert on both CBC and on CKNW radio. As well, he has served as guest host for the popular “House Calls” program on CKNW.
He has been a featured speaker on specialty acupuncture techniques at two International Conferences on Traditional Chinese Medicine and he is a popular presenter of Continuing Education topics for his profession. Bill has taught at the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Victoria and he taught Western Medicine for Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Shanghai College of TCM in Burnaby, BC. His experience as an athlete and a coach of Canada’s National Sport Parachuting Team sparked his initiative to become a co-founder and charter member of the Sport Acupuncturists Group of British Columbia – gaining recognition from Sports Med BC.
